You'll want to have some Pikemen or other anti-cavalry units just in case, but the majority of your army should be comprised of a mix of siege units and infantry. Their only major unit is the Cuirassier, and unless they have an insane economy, they won't have a whole army of them. Like the British, the French can pretty much do anything they want to do, so they're hard to judge.
This gives you a better chance of building a large army free from population, so if you like allying, the French are the way to go. If you can gather a quick economy early (which is easier because of your Coureurs), you can boom with Cuirassiers and cause some massive damage.ĭue to the Home City upgrades and so on, the French ally with the natives very easily. They're expensive as hell, but they are unarguably the strongest land unit of the game. These guys are absolute monsters, with incredible hitpoints, defense, and attack power.
